How to Do Binomial Distribution on TI-30XS

Use the binomial formula and the TI-30XS combination function to calculate an exact binomial probability.

Can the TI-30XS calculate a binomial distribution?

The TI-30XS MultiView is a scientific calculator. For an exact binomial probability, you can evaluate the binomial formula using its combination function, nCr.

Binomial formula

P(X = x) = C(n,x)pˣ(1−p)ⁿ⁻ˣ

Worked TI-30XS example

Suppose n = 10, p = 0.5 and you want P(X = 7).

  1. Calculate the combination: 10 nCr 7.
  2. Multiply by 0.5⁷.
  3. Multiply by 0.5³.
  4. The result is approximately 0.1171875, or 11.71875%.

The same result can be checked with our online binomial calculator.

What about BinomCDF?

BinomCDF is a cumulative calculator function and may not be available on every scientific calculator model. If your TI-30XS does not provide a BinomCDF function, calculate cumulative probabilities by adding the relevant exact binomial probabilities or use the online calculator.

How to calculate mean and standard deviation

For a binomial distribution, the mean is μ = np and the standard deviation is σ = √[np(1−p)].
